Hi friends. It’s been a while...
I’m still here though, and I’m so glad you are too.
What are your Memorial Day weekend plans? We're off to see a house with the world’s most adorable red oven this morning but the longest commute ever, and after that, it’ll be time to take Obie on an adventure, paint the new food backdrop I plastered yesterday, and meal prep for next week since it’s supposed to be in the 80s .... which means no oven....mostly.
What I keep meaning to make time for is learning how to recreate these masterful laminated pastries from the mysterious BakerDoe in San Francisco. I'd even be happy with just successfully executing chocolate ganache kouign amanns or a giant macaron cake. Sadly, those projects will have to wait for another unicorn weekend and some more people willing to partake.
So, no pastries, but with that meal prep in mind, I’m turning to Sqirl for inspiration:
A) Sorrel Pesto Rice Bowl
B) Socca (chickpea flour pancake) stuffed with greens and herbs, topped with labneh and more greens
C) Kabbouleh (tabbouleh, but with kale and cauliflower in place of the tomatoes, and brown rice instead of bulgur)
D) Sprouted Lentil Soup with Green Garlic Purée
E) Roasted Chicken Salad with Market Greens, Garbanzos, and Soft-boiled Eggs
F) Hazelnut Torte with Raspberry Jan, Ganache, and Toasted Meringue
G) Sticky Toffee Whole-wheat Date Cake
All from Sqirl.
I'm voting for A and C.
- A because I would assume any pesto could be substituted and I have a lot of pesto in the freezer I need to get rid of 🙂
- C because the girls are in LOVE with kale, this is the veggie of the quarantine in the Naber household!! Always looking for new uses
I vote for C as well. Rediscovered cauliflower recently and could use some new ideas how to cook it.
